Mrs. Larkin Smith, 7th grade Math teacher, assigned her students the task going on an online shopping spree. Students were assigned the task following tasks:

1. Find an outfit, shirt-pants-shoes combination. Get the regular price of items. Find the 30% discount, sale price, 8% sales tax and the total cost.

2. Find one electronic device of interest. Get the regular price of item. Find the 15% discount, sales price, 8% sales tax, and the total cost.

3. Find one piece of furniture. Get the regular price of the item. Find 10% discount, sales price, 8% sales tax, and total cost.

4. Find any item of interest. Get the regular price of the item. Then find a 10% discount, sales price, 8% sales tax, and total cost.

Shainiah Brown, Caleb Caldwell, Zynia Russell, and Jack Wilson presented their findings in a PowerPoint presentation to Mrs. Heddie Carson, Mrs. Betty Fludd, Mrs. Ayanna Glover, and Mrs. Tunisha Summers. Students explained how to calculate discounts, arrive at the sales price, calculate sales tax, and how they arrived at the total cost. Students explained how much money they saved and whether or not the savings were significant are not.  Students exhibited their technological skills in their creative PowerPoint presentations. After presentations students received praise from their audience and pointers to enhance their next presentation. We look forward to viewing more problem-based learning projects.
